
The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program at Carolina Youth Development Center offers a safe place and emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth, ages 12-17, on the North Charleston campus. While at CYDC, youth are provided with a safe and supportive environment that helps introduce normalcy and consistency in their daily lives and activities. They also receive important trauma-informed assessments and support services designed to address each child’s individual educational, emotional, physical, and social needs.
Runaway and Homeless Youth will be provided with the following when arriving:
- Meals
- A bed and new bedding
- Hygiene products
- Transportation (to school, work, and doctor appointments as needed)
- Assistance with reunification or other living arrangements outside of CYDC
CYDC also provides the following services:
- Therapeutic Services
- Teen After School Center
- Recreational activities
- Homework assistance/tutoring

Runaway and Homeless are able to stay at CYDC for up to 21 days or until reunification or other living arrangements can be made. Transportation to CYDC can be arranged if needed.
