Carolina Youth Development Center Announces 2020-2021 Board of Directors

NOTE: As of Feb. 29, 2024, Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has rebranded to Landmarks for Families. Our nonprofit, community programs and residential services remain committed to cultivating thriving youth and families in this new chapter.

Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) announced its 2020-2021 Board of Directors today. The board will be led by retired Boeing Vice President and CFO Rita Daily. 

“It is an honor to be named chair of the CYDC Board of Directors,” said Chair Rita Daily. “Leading an organization that has been in our community helping children and families for over 230 years is a monumental task, and I look forward to providing my input and expertise to help CYDC take the next step and remain the open door place for children and families in the Lowcountry.”

CYDC’s mission is to protect children, empower families and prepare youth for adulthood by providing a safe environment, educational support, and career readiness in collaboration with families and community partners. The organization provides services to more than 800 children and families and housing for up to 48 residents across two campuses in North Charleston and Berkeley counties.

CYDC’s incoming Board Chair Rita Daily replaces outgoing Chair Sue Shuler, Tax Director at Sherman Financial Group.

“This year has been unprecedented and it is more important than ever to our organization that community leaders provide support and guidance,” said CYDC CEO, Beverly Hardin. “I am thankful for the amazing individuals who have stepped up to serve in an unparalleled time in our community.” 

CYDC Board of Directors Executive Team:

Rita Daily will serve as Board Chair for CYDC’s 2020-2021 fiscal year. Rita is a retired Boeing Vice President and CFO and has volunteered with the organization for several years as well as served on the board of directors since 2018. 

Peter Barton will serve as treasurer for the Board of Directors. Barton is a director in the Charleston office of Elliott Davis, an accounting, tax, assurance and consulting firm based in South Carolina. 

Merrill Fei will continue serving as secretary for the second consecutive year. Fei is a partner at Eildon Group, LLC a licensed real estate, property management and investment firm. Fei serves on several committees including as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. 

CYDC also announced the addition of Anthony Parrish to its Board of Directors. Parrish, Charleston Turbo plan operations leader for Cummins, and will serve on the Facilities Committee which oversees the management of the organization’s two campuses which include four residential facilities as well as several administrative buildings. Parrish joined Cummins in 2005 and previously worked for 18 years in the Rain Division of Caterpillar Company.
