CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A single mother and her five children received over $400 worth of furniture and home goods recently thanks to a partnership between the Carolina Youth Development Center and the East Cooper Home Store.
The family is a CYDC client, in the organization’s community-based prevention services program. They recently moved into permanent housing in North Charleston, the group said.
“East Cooper Home Store is managed by a partnership between Seacoast Church and East Cooper Habitat for Humanity and has been a valuable partner to CYDC,” said CYDC CEO Beverly Hardin in a statement.
“The partnership started as an opportunity to receive an amazing gift from Seacoast Church, and the East Cooper Home Store stepped up and took that gift further by providing one of our amazing families with the home furnishings they needed! We are so thankful for their support,” she said.
Founded in 1790, the CYDC works to empower children and families and prepare young people for adulthood through safe environments, educational support and career readiness. About 750 children and families receive the organization’s services and they provide housing for up to 18 residents in Charleston and Berkeley county campuses.
In addition to the donated home goods, CYDC said it also received a donation from Seacoast Church for $15,000.
“CYDC has been a vital part of our community serving children and families in the Lowcountry for over 230 years,” said Laura Lewis, Local Missions at Seacoast Church. “We are honored to support their mission and were thrilled to see our partners at East Cooper Home Store provide home furnishings to a local family in need.”
