Introducing Landmarks for Families: A New Era of Support and Empowerment

Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has embarked on an exciting new chapter! We’re redefining our identity to better reflect our mission and vision for the future. This historic milestone is more than a refresh. Our team is renewing its commitment to cultivating thriving children and families within our community.

Hello! We are Landmarks for Families, and we are here for you.

Why Now?

When an organization’s journey spans two centuries, its purpose is bound to evolve. And that is a good thing! Our community – your family – is not the same as those CYDC served in the past. Times are changing, and so are our client’s needs. Landmarks for Families is our next phase in serving these modern needs.

But what does a landmark mean to our nonprofit?

A landmark is more than just a physical location; it’s a symbol of resilience, strength and endurance. It is a beacon, guiding us through life’s challenges and milestones. Just as landmarks dot the landscape, each one unique and significant, so too are the individuals and experiences that shape our lives. From the smallest gestures to the grandest achievements, we are all landmarks on the journey of life.

Our Road to Landmarks for Families

Founded in 1790, our journey from the Charleston Orphan House to today is marked by resilience, innovation and a relentless dedication to serving the community. We have persevered through wars, natural disasters and societal change to remain a beacon of hope for generations of children and families.

From its humble beginnings on Calhoun Street to its modern-day campuses in North Charleston and Moncks Corner, Landmarks for Families continues to evolve and adapt to meet the community’s changing needs.

You can learn more about our extensive history, including tales of our Civil War relocation, campus evolutions and more, on our new website: landmarksforfamilies.org/our-story/history
